Volunteering

The Aln Valley Railway is built, operated and run entirely by volunteers

Whatever your abilities and experience, no matter whether you can spare just one day or can volunteer on a regular basis, your railway needs you!

Requirements range from administrative staff to hosts, guards and even train drivers.  People with building, track laying, gardening and engineering experience and those simply willing to “pitch in” where needed are also welcome.

Another very important part of our railway is our very busy café and shop. We really do need volunteers to help us out here. Full training will be given if required.

All work is voluntary but could for example, make a very positive contribution to your curriculum vitae if you are currently unwaged. Please contact us now or download a Volunteer Application Form.

Note: If you decide to become a regular volunteer, we ask that you become a member of the Aln Valley Railway Trust. This is an indication of your willingness to support the Trust’s objectives and to abide by its rules.

More information regarding membership can be found on the Trust Membership page.
